The Kite Runner movie is coming to the Metro Cinemas courtesy of well...us. We have booked the Metro Cinema on Thursday 28 February (opening night in Orange) for a screening of The Kite Runner at 6.30pm for drinks and nibbles and then 7pm for the film. Metro Cinemas has donated a 6 month movie pass as a raffle prize and we will be asking for gold coin donations. The raffle and gold coin donations will go to Mahboba's Promise - an Australian non-profit organisation dedicated to helping the women and children of Afghanistan.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini sold 8 million copies world-wide, spent two years on the New York Times best seller list and has been reprinted several times. It is a powerful tale of friendship, family, devastating mistakes and redeeming love. The film was nominated at the Golden Globe Awards for Best Foreign Film (yes it is subtitled but you forget that in the first 2 minutes), and Best Original Score and won the Truly Moving Picture Award in 2007, designating it as a film that can "move you to laughter, to tears, to make a difference".
