How Do I Get A Library Card?
Membership of the Library is free and available to all residents of Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Forbes and Orange. When joining proof of name and residential address are required. Examples of identification are rates notice, drivers licence, pension card or electricity bill. If you're under 18 years of age you'll need the signature of a parent or guardian.
Non-residents who are members of another NSW public library are eligible to join free of charge. You will need to show a current library card and some other form of identification at the time of application.
Once you've filled out an application form you will be given a library card that you can use immediately at all branches of Central West Libraries. You are responsible for all items borrowed on your card.
What Will I Be Able To Borrow With My Library Card?
- Up to 12 books (including magazines and kits)
- 4 videos or DVDs
Plus two each of the following:
- audio books
- compact discs
- computer games
How Long Can I Keep The Items I've Borrowed and/or Renewed?
Items may be borrowed for four weeks. Videos and DVD's may be borrowed for one week only. All items may be renewed at your library or by telephone 63938132. Renewals are possible as long as another library user has not requested items.
Where Can I Return the Items?
Items on loan can be returned to any branch of Central West Libraries. You do not need to return items to the same branch that you borrowed them from. After-hours return shutes are located at Orange, Blayney, Cowra, Forbes, Molong and Canowindra Libraries.
What Does It Cost To Use The Library?
Borrowing any item is FREE. You only pay for:
- Replacing a lost or stolen library card - $1.10
- Fines charged for overdue items
- Videos and DVD's are $1 per day from the date due for return
- Other library materials are 55 cents per day
- Reservation of items ($0.55)
- Inter-library Loans/Document Delivery ($2.25 minimum)
- Lost or damaged items (replacement cost + $22.70 surcharge)
- Computer discs($2.25)
- Printing and Photocopying (From $0.20 per page)
- Microfilm/microfiche copies ($0.55 per page)
- Other charges are applicable for special services including local studies research, photographic copies, author visits - ask Library staff for details.
How Do I Find What I Am Looking For?

- Computer catalogues are available, it requires a little practice for its most efficient use. Staff are available to help you.
Our catalogue isn't currently available on-line but will be by the end of 2004.
What If the Item I Want Is Not Available?
If the item you want is currently out on loan to someone else, it can be reserved for you when it is returned. You will be notified by mail when the item is ready for you to come in and borrow. A fee of $0.55 per item applies.
What if the Library doesn't have the item I'm looking for?
The Library provides an inter-library loan service to members for titles or journal articles not held by Central West Libraries - just complete a request form, which is available from any branch. A fee applies for all inter-library loans and conditions apply to the provision of this service.
Can I offer suggestions for purchase?
Yes, the Library welcomes community input. Ask staff for a "Suggestion for Purchase" form and include as many details as you can.
