Reading Programs

"The first day of school is almost too late for a child to learn to read. It's as scary as that" Mem Fox: Reading Magic

There is a wealth of evidence to support the fact that children who are read to aloud on a regular basis when they are young are readily able to learn once they start school.

Reading aloud to your child is a great opportunity to share and bond with your child. Just 10 minutes a day will make the world of difference.

Ask at your library for information on reading to the children in your life.

Orange City Library offers Rhyme and Read, an early literacy program for babies 0-12 months and their parents or caregivers. This is a fun way to share time with the baby in your life by singing and reading aloud. Ask at the Library for further information. We'll be rolling this out to other branches in 2008.

The Library also supports Cowra Reads and Take Time, Take Ten - programs aimed at encouraging community literacy.

Central West Libraries will be participating in the summer reading club Superheroes Read this December and January. The Club will operate at our Blayney, Molong and Orange Branches. There are some great prizes to be won so enrol today, ask our staff for details!
