This month focuses on the drug info @ your library collections held in all our branches. Drug info provides accessible information about alcohol and drugs through Web resources and public library collections. These are selected and regularly updated by specialist staff at the State Library of New South Wales in consultation with experts in the field.
Drug Info @ your library is a joint initiative of NSW Health's Community Drug Strategies Branch and the State Library of NSW.
Pageturners open The Spare Room by Helen Garner
Come along to the book discussion group Pageturners on Wednesday 11 June at 5.30pm to discuss the latest book by Australian author Helen Garner titled The Spare Room. Described as an extraordinary work of fiction, The Spare Room covers an important topic. Helen prepares her spare room for her friend Nicola, who is flying down from Sydney for a three-week visit. But this is no ordinary visit - Nicola has advanced cancer. She is coming to Melbourne to receive treatment she believes will cure her. From the moment Nicola steps off the plane, Helen becomes her nurse, her protector, her guardian angel and her stony judge. Helen Garner is well known for her works such as Monkey Grip, The First Stone, Joe Cinque's Consolation and this is first novel for 15 years. Pageturners meet on the second Wednesday of each month upstairs at Orange City Library. Interested people are most welcome to come along to discuss a different "must read" each month.
