A large group of book clubbers came along to the first Pageturners meeting for the 2010 combined with our Slow Summer event Books Clubs Buzz. And the evening did buzz with conversations about books. We heard about great reads enjoyed by books clubs in Millthorpe, Orange and with U3A. A highlight of the evening was a presentation by special guest and founding supporter of Pageturners Ashley Brown of Angus & Robertson (pictured). He wheeled in a huge trolley of books and spoke about some of the most popular reads for books clubs which included:
Don't Tell Mum I Work on the Rigs, She Thinks I'm a Piano Player in a Whorehouse by Paul Cater;
A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle;
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger;
The Alchemist by Paul Coelho;
My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult;
The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom.
The group also heard Book Club reading suggestions from Book City and ABC Boomers Bookstore…watch this blog for their lists soon. The next Pageturners meeting will be as usual on the second Wednesday of the month 10 March at Orange City Library from 5.30pm 7pm to discuss works by man of the moment Alexander McCall Smith.
