Book Week is the longest running children's festival in Australia and is being held from August 20 to 26 with the theme One World, Many Stories.
It is an opportunity to celebrate books, Australian authors and illustrators as well as tell stories relating to a theme to highlight that reading is fun.
The Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA)runs the Book of the Year Awards.
There are five categories: Older Readers, Younger Readers, Early Childhood, Picture Book, and the Eve Pownall Award for Information Books. The winners will be announced on Friday 19 August.
We are delighted to see that local illustrator Freya Blackwood has been nominated in the Early Childhood shortlist for the book Maudie and Bear written by Jan Ormerod. We will have the nominated books on display and staff have also been reading the books and adding their reviews to the Library catalogue and we are inviting library patrons to do so as well.
You can also vote here for your favourite shortlisted Early Childhood book. Just click on the box along side your favourite early childhood book and then view the results so far. Happy reading and voting!
