Another win: Australian author Michelle de Kretser has collected $60,000 in prize money for her novel Questions Of Travel adding another prize to the long list of awards for the book.
It has been named Book of the Year at the New South Wales Premier’s Literary Awards, as well as winning the Christina Stead Prize for Fiction and sharing the Multicultural Award.
The novel also won last year’s Miles Franklin Literary Award and the Prime Minister’s Award for Fiction.
The novel charts two very different lives. Laura travels the world before returning to Sydney, where she works for a publisher of travel guides. Ravi dreams of being a tourist until he is driven from Sri Lanka by devastating events. Around these two superbly drawn characters, a double narrative assembles an enthralling array of people, places and stories. Described as wonderfully written, and an extraordinary work of imagination – a transformative, very funny and intensely moving novel.
What an achievement for Michelle – Congratulations!
